What is the correct thing to say to a person going trough cancer or something like what I am going through, Ill tell you one thing for sure is that you don’t walk up to the person and say “you make me feel healthy”. Which is what happened to me today while I was loading the car with groceries. A lady in her late 50s early 60s walked up to me and said that. That is definitely a first for me and completely unexpected. I really didn’t think somebody could say something like that. Now mind you I was wearing my Optune headgear but that’s still no way to talk to somebody you don’t even know. Here is what I looked like.
I welcome people to come up to me and ask questions but not to say something so wrong. It’s a simple saying “if you have nothing good to say don’t say it at all.” Patients like me like hearing from people saying they are praying for me, let me know if you need anything, I’m so sorry, and so on. But when that’s all you do is randomly send out those same messages over and over again, we begin to think they are just messages to make the sender feel like they care and are doing their part. We rather see than hear these things over and over again.
